Aren't we quickly getting to the point where it's all about the software?

Ok, so we know iPhone 5 will get dual core A5....big deal. It'll be nice to have the extra power, but the iPhone 4 now is no slouch.

Added RAM.....yeah, that would be nice....but not going to suddenly sell more phones because it has more RAM :p

Display won't get any better resolution-wise. Doubt they'd go with a larger screen either.

Better cameras....ok.....still, the iPhone 4 cameras are no slouch, and it's not like it will reach the quality of a nice DSLR with those tiny sensors.

Better graphics processing.....sure.....but it's not like it has to drive a 9.7" screen like the iPad.

I'd say Apple is smartly switching into software mode. Kick ass with iOS5, revamp notifications, make some much needed overhauls to the system, and optimize performance for todays devices (iPhone 4, iPad & iPad 2).

Apple is going to stay ahead with software. That's the way Apple is and always has been.

Highly unlikely that Apple will release an actual tv. More probable are televsions from major manufacturers that have air play functionality built in.

Why would anybody with limited know how about TV manufacturing go into that field?

USING somebody elses TV to display whatever makes much more sense.

I could see them coming in with a blockbuster smart projector device.

    Now we are talking:-)

i5 or i7 CPU combined with 512 GB of storage would be frickin' amazing. Throw in an anti-glare display and a backlit keyboard and I would just about roll over and die.
If they made a Macbook Air with i5 plus 512 GB of storage and a backlit keyboard... even I might buy it! :)

i engaged an octo late last week, will set up another tomorrow. they both run 24/7.

the graphic designers using them rarely require more than 1 core anyway :)

Please run the bigadv units, you will get much better PPD. It looks like you are running the regular SMP client for now.
Use -smp 8 if the are 2008 or earlier, -smp 16 if they are 2009 otco...

I agree this is a silly idea. Who in the world would want the Apple TV integrated into a TV? What happens when an updated Apple TV is released the next year? Toss out the TV and buy another? Most people going in and buying a new large screen HDTV are planning to keep it a lot longer then the peripherals attached to it. If some new device comes out, no problem, just plug it into your TV. The other thing is that the TV market is very a very mature and saturated market with some big well known brands behind it.

I suppose they could make the content device separate like the current Apple TV which can be attached with an HDMI cable. If they do that what is the point of an Apple branded TV which would likely be built by another company like Samsung, LG or Sharp? Styling and a logo with a higher price? Nonsense.

Everything would be streamed. Why would you need to update it beyond it breaking or needing a bigger size.

Because when you think you are better than every one else, logic tends to go out the door.

Have you seen the pictures in Nilay Patel's article about the suit ( They copied the look of the iPhone, exactly. Hell, they even copied some of the icons -- the Phone icon, the iTunes icon. Why would they make the phone icon a white handset angled up and to the right on a green background if they weren't deliberately trying to make it look like an iPhone?

If you're Apple, you absolutely have to sue over this. Otherwise you're saying, okay, anybody who wants to can just make a clone that looks exactly like the iPhone. Anyone who owns a valuable brand has to defend it.

YES! Now I can trade in my Microshaft Bluetooth mouse for this one! I've waned a mighty mouse for a while, but didn't want to give up bluetooth (even though I'm never really a distance away that a cord wouldn't reach).

I don't know but is the Adware related to this:

Sometimes when I download videos from LimeWire, and run then it will bring up a browser window and open a site. Essentially an ad. Do this supposed hole cause this?

Apple definitely needs to get more serious about security. As more people start to buy Macs, more people will start to tinker and find holes. I hope Apple will rise to the challenge.

No, that is not Adware. Adware is a program that is installed *on your computer*, so it can launch windows whenever it wants. In the case of Web pages that pop up when you are viewing a video, that's just because it's a "feature" of the particular video technology (e.g. in Real Media or Windows Media streams you can embed code to open a browser window). It's no more Adware than when you go to and it launches a pop-up ad.

I understand where you are coming from, but I still don't interpret the EULA as you do. Neither does Paul Thurrott Can you please provide links to others who think like you, preferably if they happen to work for MS. ;)

The earlier thread on this topic is here:

I agree with Dave on this one. It's saying you can't have the OS installed on VM as well as a standalone machine. It's no more restrictive than the XP licensing.

Only difference is the VM part is EXPLICIT, instead of IMPLIED.

You could only have XP installed on 1 machine at any time.

Would it be out of line for me to suggest that AT&T should hire an outside agency to determine what the normal dropped call percentage is in each market, and then offer those markets a monthly discount on their rate equal to that percentage?

I am in Southern California, Orange County area and would say my dropped call rate is around 20%. I spent some time in San Francisco in July and the service was horrible, my biggest problem was with data and the accuracy of maps ... which can be an issue when you're walking around a town like that and you've never been there.

Hd3000 is integrated and there is no room on the board to put a discreet gpu nor does the MBA need the heat and also would require more power to be consumed

Your also missing the point of the MBA. It's not meant to be a power house

Sorry if i may have missed some info here

but does Apple say that they would not put an integrated GPU for the remaining of their Sandy Bridge line?

which means, as long as they use SB processor, it will be using the HD3000?

because if you guys hate the graphics downgrade, i am sure this is just a marketing strategy, and you can hope to see the next gen after this one to include integrated GPU, hopefully

i am also having a dilemma here on whether to pull my trigger on the current ultimate 13 or the SB, even if i dont play games on laptop anymore ( well the only game i still play on my MBP is EvE ), but i am a greedy bastard after all :p

    ==== edit ====

sorry just done some research, looks like you cant put any dedicated into SB after all.. what a shame

I would think that's just a string variable that holds the App name. For some reason, it displays the variable instead of displaying its value.

Why, my friend, do you think that a "cash cow" has to be the thing that gains the most revenue/profit? Not sure what dictionary you're using; please let me know.

Why, my friend, by "the iPod is Apple's cash cow", you imply that there is only one cash cow. But if you want to use the traditional definition (*&Query=cash+cow) of "cash cow", "a project that generates a continuous flow of money," then the Mac would be more of a cash cow than the iPod, because it has always represented a larger proportion of Apple's profits and revenues. Not once has the iPod represented more of Apple's revenues. So the Mac generates a larger continuous flow of money.

Not sure what set of rules of logic you are using, but either way you are wrong. The Mac is still more important to Apple's bottom line than the iPod. Apple is also innovating more on the Mac than with the iPod.

By the way, you might want to look up the definition of the word "emotional" as well. I'm using facts, you're making things up.
